A privately-held company, Wy'East has been offering patient
transfer systems to hospitals and care facilities for more than
fifteen years. Wy'East houses both its corporate offices and
state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Clackamas, Oregon — a
suburb of Portland — with full access to shipping providers
for both national and international destinations.
Patient transfer systems from Wy'East are found in care facilities
around the world. Background
and History
In 1979 Adel Medical, Ltd. was established to manufacture specialty
beds used in the labor and delivery departments of hospitals
in the United States and Canada. This company was one of
two major competitors in this market and much of its marketing
strategy was based on developing educational programs such
as videotapes,
seminars, and planning kits for the establishment of alternative
birthing suites.
Following the acquisition of Adel Medical in 1987 by Stryker
Corporation, the management team founded Wy'East Medical
to develop and manufacture patient transfer systems. Our
initial
product
was the TotaLift-II Transfer Chair, introduced to the acute
care hospital market in late 1989. Many enhancements later,
the TotaLift-II
is now being used in hospitals across the U.S. and Canada.
This product is also in long-term care facilities as well
as in private homes.
In 1994, we introduced our patented surface-to-surface transfer
system on an adjustable height stretcher called the TotaLift-PTS
Transfer Stretcher. With the TotaLift-PTS, caregivers can literally
transfer patients from bed to stretcher without lifting.
The primary benefit of our products is the reduction of
the risk of staff back injuries related to moving patients
into
and out
of bed. Other benefits include a decrease in the number
of people required to transfer patients. Most hospitals
view
this extremely
favorably given the reduction of staff across the industry.
In fact, a customer in Missouri documented a 40% reduction
in back
injuries to caregivers over the first three years of
TotaLift-II operation. Wy'East Medical Today
The landscape of today's caregiving environment has become
a challenging arena. While organizations — large and small — work
to cut costs and remain competitive, the number of patients and
the complexity of their clinical needs has exploded. The resulting
equation is difficult to balance.
Wy'East can help. Need help with the math?
Our formula has proven itself many times over. The proper use
of patient transfer systems from Wy'East Medical results in a
dramatic reduction in injury to caregivers and patients. Many
organizations have seen the benefits where they matter most — on
the bottom line. These results are measured in terms that most
organizations notice: fewer claims and a marked reduction in
lost days of work.
Named
for a Symbol of Strength
Wy'East Medical Corporation takes its name from the legendary
Native American name for Mt. Hood which, at 11,245 feet, is the
highest mountain peak in Oregon and a well-known and much loved
landmark in the region.
Our Zero Lift Policy: Wy'East's unique, patented lateral patient transfer chairs are designed to minimize risk and to enable caregivers to move patients safely and comfortably without lifting.
